The UK and The USA, Two Multicultural Countries.

After listening to Antonio's and Pepe´s presentation about "Multicultural Britain" (Report 1 in your text book) and after reading the article "Melting Pot or Salad Bowl", about multiculturality in The USA, we had an interesting debate in class about this aspect of both societies. Please leave your comment and opinion here. Mention what you think about immigration. Is it a "plus" to the country that receives immigrants  or is it a "danger"? What do you think is better or richer to live in a multicultural place or in a non multicultural one?

  1. In my opinion, I think inmigration is a plus to the country because it enriches the society and in general, the country. Unfortunately, some persons don´t want different people and they think they are bad and come here to take away "our" jobs. About the Antonio´s and Pepe´s presentation, I think Americas is like a "melting pot" because there, there are a lot of cultures and live toghether. I mean all of Americans feel of the same country and they are a only nation. For example, maybe an African lives in Spain can be feel Spanish but I think all inmigrants in Spain don´t feel it. So, I think American society is a melting pot althought they are separated.

  2. Hello teacher! I´m Francisco Luque. I agree with immigration. I understand that in his country do not live well and are forced to find another alternative, move to other more developed countries in order to have a second chance, for him and his family. I, for example, if one of them, I do not think twice about going to another country to get a job.

  3. Hi teacher!
I'm going to talk about the immigration.
I don’t agree with that the immigration is a “plus” but neither is a “danger”. I think that it’s a normal thing of the day to day, because the immigration was always in many countries, although the reasons of the past aren’t the same that the reasons of today.
The main reason of the immigration was, is and will be, that the life is very difficult in the cities or countries issuers, so they need live in a different place.
For other part, the society of each country is formed from differents many cultures and races.

I think that it's better live in a multicultural place because like this we'll know better ourselves

  4. I think that the immigration have got a part positive and part negative. The part positive is a improve of the economy, but the part negative is the terrorism and delinquency. For example, is Spain a 60% of the prisoner are inmigrants.

For other part, the inmigration enrich the culture of the countries. In short, the inmigration is a two-sided coin. Marcos Sánchez Bernal

  5. I can say of the inmigration that for me always is important because it is amazing for peoples know other cultures or just meet with other people in your country, so I think that it's fine that we can live with other places.

About the topic of USA and "salad bowl & melting pot" I want to say that this country is a "salad bowl" because they share a great country but there are a lot of cultures and diferent peoples.

  6. History of Britain.

Britain is a mix of cultures and races, but why?
Great Britain was invaded in 500 BC by a lot of people who came from different places.
First Celts, Romans, Vikings, Saxons and Normans arrived. After that Irish and Jews came
because they hadn´t got enough jobs in their countries and they had to live in horrible conditions.

    BY: Carmen Pinelo.
Finally people from the colonies of the Caribean and Asia came too, because they had the same
    problems.
And this is the answer to the question why. Now we can say that Britain is a country with a lot of kinds of people.
They´ve got different likes and points of view but they all look like a big family.

  7. In my opinion, the immigration is a cultural plus in our society because it is a step in this future of globalization.I don´t think the immigration afects the economy of a country in a positive form, but I think the future is multicultural and this is positive

This is what about the debate today:
In my opinion, the blend of different races and people, is a good thing. But it also depends on the people. Some people will go to other countries to steal, tu hurt other people, etc. Those people aren't good. Instead people that come to study, to find a job, or simply to look for a better quality of life, they seem to me very brave, because they left their country and came to a country that they don't know.
Talking about the USA and Britain I think the blend of cultures is bette. Because you learn to live with others who are different fropm you, have a different skin colour or have other customs; you learn to respect them. Chiefly, you end up racism; that is the most important thing.

  9. England and USA are two multicultural countries; a lot of immigrants have come to over the years.

I think all these people arrived in England and USA to change their lives not to steal or do something bad. In my opinion, all these people can be described as a mixture of cultures. Immigrants sometimes do good things for the country but sometimes they don’t make them. For this reason so many people don’t want immigrants in their country.

I think immigration is good for a country because thanks to it we know more cultures; so immigration is clearly a plus to a country.
I think it is better to live in a multicultural country as UK and USA because we can learn a lot of things about other cultures.

  10. In my opinion the immigration isn't good or bad, it just depends on the case. If an immigrant goes to a country to work it's good, but if that person goes to a place and doesn't worok and steals it's bad. But in general I think the immigration is positive for a country, because it makes the culture get better.

In the case of the USA's society I think it's a melting pot, because it looks a single culture, but inside the USA there're some differences between those cultures.

  11. My opinion on the debate that we did today in class is that immigration depends on the people.
Some people of another race will come only to do evil things like: steal or take away the jobs (which usually is not true, usually do those jobs which no one else wants)
But immigration can also mean a plus for society.
And about what Antonio and Pepe have spoken in class today, I think the USA is a ''Salad Bowl'' because there are many cultures in America, but can also be considered a''Melting pot''

  12. Rocío Librero Rodriguez:

I think imigrant are a do good influence because americans can learn about other cultures because immigrant do not lose their traditions in other countries and with this I agree, but I don't agree whit the americans because they usually aren't polite and this is not good.

  13. My opinion.
The inmigration is good because a lot of people come to study ,to find a job and respect our law but the otrher persons steal ,make offences..
But these situation is the same in the other countries bacause when the inmigrants come they don´t know their situations.
I think the blend of cultures is better because the cauntries have a los cultures and you can meet diferents persons and diferents lifes
